The Jewel Box Theatre, for 50 years, a highly successful community theatre in Oklahoma City, invites all playwrights to submit manuscripts for its 2007 competition. Scripts will be accepted October 2007 through January 14, 2008. The winner will be announced in April 2008, and a cash award of $500 will be presented at the Gem Awards banquet. In addition, the season selection committee will consider the play for full production in the 2008-2009 season.

Plays should be of a strong ensemble nature with emphasis on character rather than spectacle. There is no censorship of subject matter for the competition.

RULES:

1) Entries must be postmarked no later than January 14, 2008. Hand delivered entries must be checked into the Jewel Box business office at 3700 North Walker, Oklahoma City, OK 73118 by 5:00 PM, January 14, 2008.

2) No more than one entry may be submitted by an author. A $10.00 entry fee (check or money order) must accompany the script along with the entry form (below).

3) Each submission must include 2 copies of the script with no mention of the author's name or address on any page. Scripts must be securely bound.

4) Script will only be returned if accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped mailer large enough to accommodate both copies. USE STAMPS ONLY, NO metered labels. Score sheets will accompany returned scripts. If you desire just the score sheets, include a legal size, stamped self-addressed envelope. Unreturned plays will be destroyed after May 1, 2008.

5) Please use an accepted script format, neatly typed, and include in each script a full character list with descriptions of each character (age, relationship to other characters, etc.) to aid the judges.

6) Only full-length un-produced plays will be considered. Studio production/readings during the writing of the play are not considered full productions. Translations from another language must be submitted by the original author.

7) No children's shows, musicals, one-acts, or multimedia works can be considered.

8) The committee reserves the right to not present an award for any given year as deemed appropriate.

9) A COMPLETED AND SIGNED ENTRY FORM / INFORMATION SHEET, PLAYWRIGHT'S AGREEMENT STATEMENT, AND $10 ENTRY FEE MUST ACCOMPANY ALL SUBMISSIONS.
